A grey, even sky over the water, with an easy breeze from the NW and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Le Gros Lac will be around the first drop-off and weed lines. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Le Gros Lac sits within Capitale-Nationale in Quebec. Everything around it is pine and birch. The water covers some 67 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Roughly 3.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Few waters listed in Capitale-Nationale are bigger. You are 16 km from Saint-Ubalde. Sainte-Foy is the closest city, 64 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Take Le Gros Lac a stretch at a time.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -14°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan around that when you fish Le Gros Lac.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac Fortin, 1.3 km away. Treat access at Le Gros Lac as something to verify.
