Poor visibility with fog on the water, with a whisper of wind from the W and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Fortin is the weed line and any gaps in it. The evening is where the day comes good. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Capitale-Nationale, Lac Fortin is a Quebec water. Elevation runs to 205 metres. The water measures roughly 6 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. For supplies, Saint-Ubalde is 16 km out. Saint-Marc-des-Carrières is 19 km away, with Saint-Raymond at 22 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Capitale-Nationale records list lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac Fortin for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -14°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That shapes the year on Lac Fortin.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Lac Vallee is 1 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Lac Fortin.
