Fog sitting on the water this morning, with light air out of the W with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Le Petit Lac should come off the shallows early and the drop later. The evening should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Le Petit Lac is a Capitale-Nationale water, Quebec side. What surrounds it is pine and birch. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. On size it sits at the modest end of our Capitale-Nationale list. Nearest town is Saint-Ubalde, 17 km off. Beyond it, Saint-Marc-des-Carrières at 18 km and Saint-Raymond at 20 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Le Petit Lac the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -14°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Le Petit Lac the same rules apply, with local timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac Crochu is 0.9 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Le Petit Lac for certain.
