Showers crossing the water today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac MacShane is the weed line and any gaps in it. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac MacShane lies in Laurentides, in Quebec. The surface lies 396 metres up. Surface area is around 18 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. About 2.0 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Some 9 km away sits Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, the nearest settlement. Beyond it, Val-David at 9.4 km and Val-Morin at 13 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. At Lac MacShane light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -14°C at the bottom of winter. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac MacShane.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Davis sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Lac MacShane are worth checking on the day.
