A still, cloudless night on the water, with steady pressure of wind from the W and the barometer heading up. Odds at Lake Leota are best on White crappie near inflow corners and shaded margins. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving.

Look for Lake Leota in the Kent County part of Michigan. Height above sea level is 587 feet. With some 36 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. It lies lower than most water we list in Michigan. Grandville lies 2.4 miles from the water. Then Wyoming, 3 miles, and Jenison, 3.4 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth on file is 15 ft. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Species logged across Kent County include bluegill, rock bass, johnny darter and largemouth bass. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lake Leota the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
July runs about 72°F on average, January about 23°F. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late March. Ice clears near late March and comes back about mid December in a typical year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Anyone fishing Lake Leota regularly works to that calendar.
Public ownership means the bank is normally open to anglers. A boat ramp sits half a mile away, so trailered boats can get on. Lot A gives parking half a mile away. A pier half a mile from here gives a platform over deeper water. Mapping marks a fishing place roughly 0.9 miles off. Public toilets are recorded roughly half a mile off. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Spot 4, 0.6 miles away. None of that is settled for Lake Leota in what we hold.
