A closed sky with even light today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the WSW and pressure ticking upward. Activity on Fennessy Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Fennessy Lake is a Kent County water, in Michigan. The setting is lake country bush on every side. At about 63 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 1.3 miles of edge, you can try several depths in one session. It is among the larger waters listed here for Kent County. Supplies mean a trip to Jenison, 3.1 miles off. After that come Grandville at 3.2 miles and Walker at 3.5 miles. The line between counties passes nearby, which can change who manages the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Kent County include bluegill, rock bass, johnny darter, largemouth bass and black crappie. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Fennessy Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 71°F in July and bottom out at 23°F in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Break-up comes around late March, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about late March and return around mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Expect Fennessy Lake to follow that timing.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. A ramp at Public Launch is mapped half a mile away. Parking is not close: half a mile from the bank, and no nearer option is mapped. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Round Lake is 0.5 miles off. Confirm before you fish Fennessy Lake.
