Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with almost no wind to speak of with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac Ternas along shallow cover and weed edges. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Ternas falls in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, part of Quebec. The water sits 350 metres up. The water measures roughly 3 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Val-d'Or at 93 km is the nearest place to stop. Gatineau is the closest city, 249 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Anyone new to Lac Ternas should walk it once before setting up.
Averages move between -15°C in January and 17°C in July. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It holds true on Lac Ternas more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Failing this one, try Lac Demi-Lune, 1.1 km away. What applies at Lac Ternas may have changed since it was mapped.
