Soft grey light all day today, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Lac Mouton should fish best around structure within a cast of the bank today. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Mouton sits. It stands 359 metres above sea level. About 6 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest place of any size is Val-d'Or, 94 km away. Malartic follows at 104 km, then Notre-Dame-du-Lac at 119 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth figures are not published for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Fish Lac Mouton to its features, not to its size.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Lac Mouton runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Mussain at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Mouton in what we hold.
