Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with dead-still conditions and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac Roy should come off points where shallow meets deep. Make the morning the heart of the trip. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Quebec holds Lac Roy, in Capitale-Nationale. The surroundings are boreal forest. At 3 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Some 16 km away sits Laurentides, the nearest settlement. After that come Saint-Raymond at 42 km and Sainte-Thècle at 54 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Roy a short move beats a long cast.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -15°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Lac Roy rarely departs from it.
Access is not recorded for this water. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Ken is 1.5 km distant. The position on Lac Roy is worth confirming on the day.
