Showers crossing the water today, with stillness over the whole water and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Ken should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. The day peaks in the morning. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec, this is Lac Ken. The setting is taiga. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The closest town, Laurentides, is 15 km distant. For a city, Sainte-Foy is 79 km off. Others within reach: Lac Roy sits 1.5 km out, Lac Rond about 2.9 km, Lac Plat sits 3 km out, Lac Haut about 3.2 km and Lac Brehan sits 3.8 km out. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Capitale-Nationale records list lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Ken repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -15°C at the bottom of winter. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac Ken runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Roy is 1.5 km off. Treat access at Lac Ken as something to verify.
