A closed sky with even light today, with stillness over the whole water with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Pan should hold close to the margins and the shelf beyond them. The morning should out-fish the rest of the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window.

The Capitale-Nationale entry here is Lac Pan, in Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is a small entry by Capitale-Nationale standards. Head to Laurentides, 10 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 80 km to Sainte-Foy, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Lac Pan a short move beats a long cast.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. That shapes the year on Lac Pan.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Plat, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Pan if anything is unclear.
