  You will find Lac Lietto in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec. The bank is 434 metres above sea level. With some 63 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. There is roughly 5.4 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. It ranks high for size among our Capitale-Nationale listings. Start from Laurentides, 20 km down the road. Saint-Raymond is 41 km and Fossambault-sur-le-Lac 51 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.

• Where to Fish on Lac Lietto

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The near bank of Lac Lietto is often the one people ignore.

  Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go.
