Flat light and a covered sky today, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind with the glass holding level. The productive water at Lac du Mais will be around structure within a cast of the bank. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Quebec, Lac du Mais falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The setting is spruce and muskeg. Surface area is around 14 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. A shoreline of some 1.6 km keeps the choices simple. Head to Leblanc, 69 km away, for anything you forgot. Beyond it, Weymontachie at 108 km and Normandin at 111 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Lac du Mais rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -18°C at the bottom of winter. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac du Mais fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Gardy, 0.7 km away. What applies at Lac du Mais may have changed since it was mapped.
