A closed sky with even light today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW with a settled glass. The water to cover at Lac Venteux is the seam between weed and open water. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

You will find Lac Venteux in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It sits at 451 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 16 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. About 3.7 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Start from Leblanc, 72 km down the road. After that come Normandin at 108 km and Weymontachie at 110 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Read Lac Venteux for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -18°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Lac Venteux to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Cante at 0.6 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Lac Venteux should be assumed from this page alone.
