Solid cloud cover today, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and the barometer holding steady. Lac Flize should fish best around bays that hold the day's warmth today. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Flize is set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank is 450 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. Start from Leblanc, 74 km down the road. Normandin is 107 km away, with Weymontachie at 111 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Flize where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Flize.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Turquoise at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Lac Flize is worth confirming on the day.
