Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a light chop building from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Footprint Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

In British Columbia, Footprint Lake belongs to Peace River Regional District. The land about it is pine and birch. The whole outline is near 1.8 km, and most of it is walkable. Our Peace River Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. The town to know is Tumbler Ridge, 35 km out. The big place round here is Kamloops, 473 km distant. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name mountain whitefish, longnose sucker, largescale sucker, Arctic grayling and bull trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Treat Footprint Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Average temperature peaks around 13°C in July and bottoms out near -9°C in January. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about early November in an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Footprint Lake rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Gibson Lake, 2.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Footprint Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
