Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and pressure sitting still. Expect most activity at Rat Lake around the first drop-off and weed lines. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Night
You will find Rat Lake in Peace River Regional District, British Columbia. The setting is lake country bush on every side. It measures about 22 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With about 2.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Our Peace River Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. The closest town, Tumbler Ridge, is 45 km distant. The big place round here is Kamloops, 464 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Peace River Regional District include mountain whitefish, longnose sucker, largescale sucker and Arctic grayling. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Take Rat Lake a stretch at a time.
Typical July readings run about 13°C; by January the average is down near -9°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Rat Lake to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Iris Lake sits 4.8 km off and takes the overflow. For Rat Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
