Solid cloud cover today, with an easy breeze from the SSW with a settled glass. Activity on Brittany Lake should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. Block out the hours from morning through afternoon. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Brittany Lake lies in Cariboo Regional District, British Columbia. Land around it is lake country bush. At some 1.44 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 13 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Head to Hanceville, 68 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Anahim Lake (125 km) and Williams Lake (135 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Cariboo Regional District list sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout, Coho salmon and longnose sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Brittany Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Seasonal averages run from -10°C in January up to 12°C in August. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Brittany Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Murray Taylor Lake at 2.3 km is the sensible second choice. For Brittany Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
