A grey, foggy start today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the NE and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Trout Lake will be around the seam between weed and open water. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Set in Peace River Regional District, Trout Lake is a British Columbia water. Around the bank it is mixed forest. At about 11 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 1.7 km of margin, front to back. On size it sits at the modest end of our Peace River Regional District list. 27 km away sits Tumbler Ridge, the nearest town. Kamloops sits 484 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Peace River Regional District include mountain whitefish, longnose sucker, largescale sucker and Arctic grayling. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The shape of Trout Lake decides where the fish sit.
The year swings from about -9°C in January to roughly 14°C in July. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Trout Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Bearhole Lake, 6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Trout Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
