Fishing near Cary, Illinois

The McHenry County town of Cary sits in Illinois. Its population sits near 17,965. Reckoned by road: Lake Killarney at about 2.2 miles, Silver Lake at about 2.3 miles to the north, North Lake at about 3.4 miles then Grassy Lake at about 4.6 miles to the east. Silver Lake runs clear, so keep back from the edge and fish light. Flat, standing water makes up the choice. Weed gaps are better than weed edges on a bright day. In milder years the surface stays open. Treat any of it with suspicion. Lake Killarney, the closest, runs to roughly 61 acres. Lake Killarney is the one with a mapped slipway. Ice generally clears near late March in an average year. McHenry County records cover bluegill, largemouth bass and green sunfish. Where two sit close together, fish the quieter one first. Rules here are Illinois rules, whatever the water looks like....
