Flat light and a covered sky today, with mild air moving in from the WSW and steady pressure. Fish at Lac Walter should hold close to inflow corners and shaded margins. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Walter is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. It sits at 398 metres above sea level. Small at around 8 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Start from Pont Rouge, 88 km down the road. Saguenay sits 117 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Within a short run: Lac Andre lies 0.9 km on, Lac Jacques about 1.8 km, Lac Lionel lies 2.3 km on, Lac Stella about 2.9 km and Lac Rock lies 3 km on. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Read Lac Walter before you fish it and the day goes better.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -19°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Walter runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Andre at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac Walter as something to verify.
