A grey, even sky over the water, with a light WSW breeze with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Rolande is points where shallow meets deep. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Quebec, Lac Rolande falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. Beyond the shoreline you have boreal forest. Surface area is around 10 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Roughly 1.8 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. For a base, Pont Rouge sits 85 km out. Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc lies 86 km off, Sainte-Monique another 90 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Fish Lac Rolande to its features, not to its size.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan any trip to Lac Rolande around it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Lac Francis is 1.7 km off. Signs at Lac Rolande carry more weight than any list.
