Solid cloud cover today, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Lac Ulric around bays that hold the day's warmth. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Ulric is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. It lies 422 metres above sea level. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. A shoreline of some 1.9 km keeps the choices simple. For supplies, Leblanc is 84 km out. Further out sit Chapais (95 km) and Chibougamau (100 km). Close neighbours run: Lac Scott out at 0.9 km, Lac Celon roughly 1.1 km, Lac Zenon out at 1.4 km, Lac Vinet roughly 1.7 km and Lac Dieval out at 2.2 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Lac Ulric repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That shapes the year on Lac Ulric.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Lac Scott is 0.9 km distant. For Lac Ulric in particular, ask before you travel.
