Flat light and a covered sky today, with a steady SSW wind with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Dieval along the calm side of the wind. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Dieval sits. The surface lies 444 metres up. With some 10 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The nearest town is Leblanc, 85 km away. Then Chapais, 95 km, and Chibougamau, 99 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Lac Dieval before you fish it and the day goes better.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Dieval regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Vinet is 1.9 km distant. What applies at Lac Dieval may have changed since it was mapped.
