Soft grey light all day today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac Dorval should be near reed fringes and open pockets. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Mauricie, Lac Dorval is a Quebec water. The water sits 435 metres up. With some 26 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 2.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Leblanc at 86 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Chapais at 92 km and Chibougamau at 98 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. The shape of Lac Dorval rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 16°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Lac Dorval runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Albe at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position at Lac Dorval before loading the car.
