Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with almost no wind to speak of with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Rene should be near reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Rene sits. The bank gives way to taiga. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 2.3 km on foot. The town to know is Leblanc, 80 km out. The nearest city of size is Trois-Rivières, 286 km away. Close by you have: Lac Christie after 0.9 km, Lac Fife at 1 km, Lac Sack after 1.5 km, Lac Tempo at 1.6 km and Lac Turn after 1.6 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Rene a short move beats a long cast.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -18°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac Rene fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Should this one be busy, Lac Christie is 0.9 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Rene in what we hold.
