Showers crossing the water today, with a working SSW breeze and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Polo is the shaded margin through bright spells. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Out in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, sits Lac Polo. It stands 496 metres above sea level. At about 22 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 1.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Supplies mean a trip to Leblanc, 63 km off. The big place round here is Saguenay, 222 km distant. Round about: 1 km out stands Lac Cassis, Lac Humi lies 1.3 km on, 1.8 km out stands Lac Bereau, Lac Demi lies 2.5 km on and 2.6 km out stands Lac Rim. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Polo the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lac Polo rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. For a change of water, Lac Cassis is 1 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Lac Polo.
