Wet weather working through today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac Nil will be around windblown banks where food collects. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Nil sits within Mauricie in Quebec. The country round it is boreal forest from end to end. At roughly 3 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. For supplies, Leblanc is 59 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 223 km away. Close neighbours run: Lac Rio at 0.7 km, Lac Hobo a shade over 0.8 km, Lac Gin at 1.1 km, Lac Demi a shade over 2.1 km and Lac John at 2.1 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. The shape of Lac Nil decides where the fish sit.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 16°C in July. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Time your trip to Lac Nil by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Rio, 0.7 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Nil in what we hold.
