Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a whisper of wind from the S and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Pie along windblown banks where food collects. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Pie lies in Mauricie, Quebec. It stands 315 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest place of any size is La Tuque, 46 km away. After that come Métabetchouan at 77 km and Chambord at 80 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Pie repays a walk before the first cast.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -16°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That shapes the year on Lac Pie.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Lac Ecureuil, 2.7 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Pie for certain.
