Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Fish at Lac Paquin should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Paquin sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. Height above sea level is 247 metres. The water covers some 13 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Roughly 2.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Deep River is the closest town at 38 km. Gatineau sits 131 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Treat Lac Paquin as a water to read rather than to cover.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Lac Paquin follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac Ranger, 1.5 km out. Confirm access to Lac Paquin locally before you travel.
