Flat light and a covered sky today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Pigeon should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Outaouais, Quebec, is where Lac Pigeon sits. It sits at 272 metres above sea level. With some 20 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 2.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Some 41 km away sits Deep River, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Gatineau, 135 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Take Lac Pigeon a stretch at a time.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -14°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Pigeon rarely departs from it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Rose, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac Pigeon as something to verify.
