Dull, settled light over the water, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac Ranger. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

In Quebec, Lac Ranger falls inside Outaouais. The water sits 271 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Deep River is the closest place, 37 km off. The big place round here is Gatineau, 132 km distant. Nearby alternatives: Lac Ostrom (1 km), Lac Seguin 1.3 km off, Lac Chanceux (1.3 km), Lac Paquin 1.5 km off and Lac Cahill (3.4 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Ranger gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -14°C for January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan any trip to Lac Ranger around it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Ostrom is 1 km distant. For Lac Ranger in particular, ask before you travel.
