No direct sun expected today, with a light chop building from the SW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Palastre should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Quebec holds Lac Palastre, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Height above sea level is 368 metres. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Senneterre, 109 km off. Beyond it, Val-d'Or at 112 km and Saint-Boniface at 122 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Take Lac Palastre a stretch at a time.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Lac Palastre rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Tamison is 0.6 km off. Where Lac Palastre is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
