Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the SSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Askew, work windblown banks where food collects first. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

In Quebec, Lac Askew falls inside Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This is spruce and muskeg country. Roughly 25 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Bank access stretches around 3.6 km in total. Senneterre at 108 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Gatineau is 237 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac Askew repays a walk before the first cast.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Askew runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Nibas is 0.9 km off. The position on Lac Askew is worth confirming on the day.
