A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft SSW wind with a settled glass. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Lac Pal. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Pal. Height above sea level is 439 metres. It runs to roughly 60 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The margin runs to about 5.5 km in total. It is among the larger waters listed here for Mauricie. Weymontachie lies 43 km from the water. Beyond it, La Tuque at 60 km and Manawan at 71 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Lac Pal a stretch at a time.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -16°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac Pal runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Gouin sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Pal may have changed since it was mapped.
