Cloud in patches with bright spells between, with air barely moving with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Jabot around the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Jabot is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue waters in Quebec. The setting is pine and birch. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Saint-Boniface at 113 km is the nearest place to stop. Gatineau is the closest city, 217 km away. Others worth noting: Lac Vanadis at about 0.7 km, Lac Radula after 0.8 km, Lac Cerveau at about 0.8 km, Lac Goward after 1 km and Lac Alligator at about 1.2 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Jabot responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Jabot.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Vanadis, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Jabot.
