Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Alligator should be near any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Look for Lac Alligator in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. Pine and birch runs right down to the water. At roughly 9 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Val-d'Or lies 114 km from the water. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 218 km away. Also on the doorstep: Lac Radula after 0.7 km, Lac Vanadis some 1 km off, Lac Hote after 1 km, Lac Jabot some 1.2 km off and Lac Goward after 1.5 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Take Lac Alligator a stretch at a time.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Alligator follows the weather closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Radula, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Alligator in particular, ask before you travel.
