A half-and-half sky over the water today, with a soft SSW wind and no real change in pressure. Lac Hector should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Set in Outaouais, Quebec, this is Lac Hector. The water sits 423 metres up. It measures about 19 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 2.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Head to Saint-Boniface, 52 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 144 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac Hector that means starting tight and working out.
The range across the year is -16°C to 18°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Hector.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Luc at 0.5 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac Hector as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
