A closed sky with even light today, with a soft SSW wind with the barometer flat. The fish at Lac Caron are likely to sit near windblown banks where food collects. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Caron lies within the bounds of Outaouais, Quebec. It sits in lake country bush. The water covers some 22 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 51 km off. Maniwaki follows at 56 km, then Saint-Raphaël at 60 km. Within easy reach: Lac Luc at about 1.3 km, Lac Hector (1.7 km), Lac Dickson at about 2.4 km, Lac Jacob (2.4 km) and Lac Barton at about 3 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records hold no depth for this water. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Caron the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Caron that shapes the whole year.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Luc, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Caron in what we hold.
