An even grey lid over the water, with a decent S wind working the banks and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lac Fourchu around structure within a cast of the bank. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

In Quebec, Lac Fourchu belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. Everything around it is spruce and muskeg. The water measures roughly 8 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. For a base, Métabetchouan sits 42 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 105 km away. Nearby, in order: Lac Luc after 0.7 km, Lac Tournay the better part of 1.2 km, Lac Savane after 2 km, Lac Louisette the better part of 2 km and Lac Grandville after 2.3 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac Fourchu gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac Fourchu fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Luc sits 0.7 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Lac Fourchu is worth confirming on the day.
