Overcast skies today, with a persistent wind from the S and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Lac a l'Eclat will be around the calm side of the wind. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

You will find Lac a l'Eclat in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It sits at 397 metres above sea level. Roughly 31 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 3.4 km, and most of it is walkable. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. Nearest place of any size is Métabetchouan, 45 km away. Chambord is 49 km away, with Desbiens at 52 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac a l'Eclat light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The seasonal spread runs -17°C to 17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Lac a l'Eclat rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Petit lac du Depot is 1.3 km distant. Ask locally about Lac a l'Eclat if anything is unclear.
