A closed sky with even light today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water with a settled glass. The fish at Lac du Petard are likely to sit near points where shallow meets deep. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac du Petard in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Country round the bank runs to taiga. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Normandin is the closest town at 60 km. Saint-Félicien follows at 64 km, then Albanel at 67 km. Alternatives close at hand: Lac de la Moto lies 1.2 km on, Lac du Bijou a touch under 1.2 km, Lac Vermillon lies 3 km on, Lac Briand a touch under 3.1 km and Lac de la Carte lies 3.3 km on. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Lac du Petard the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Expect Lac du Petard to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac de la Moto, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac du Petard in what we hold.
