Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a consistent blow out of the SSW and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac du Jonc is any hard bottom among the soft. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac du Jonc. The bank gives way to spruce and muskeg. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Normandin is the closest place, 56 km off. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 167 km away. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac du Jonc gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Time your trip to Lac du Jonc by conditions rather than dates.
We hold no note on access for this one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Ludesse, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac du Jonc in particular, ask before you travel.
