A closed sky with even light today, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac du Hibou along windblown banks where food collects. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac du Hibou is a Quebec water. The water sits 415 metres up. The water covers some 12 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 2.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Félicien, 25 km off. Saint-Prime lies 27 km off, Roberval another 31 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac du Hibou the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Plan around that when you fish Lac du Hibou.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Lac de l'Ouest is 0.7 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Lac du Hibou.
