Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a persistent wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac du Castor should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac du Castor is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. Everything around it is taiga. It runs to roughly 16 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 2.6 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. You are 21 km from Saint-Félicien. After that come Saint-Prime at 23 km and Roberval at 28 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac du Castor a short move beats a long cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -18°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac du Castor the season follows that pattern closely.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac de l'Ecluse de Castor at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac du Castor in what we hold.
