A grey, even sky over the water, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Douley will be around the first drop-off and weed lines. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

You will find Lac Douley in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The water sits 526 metres up. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is high ground by Quebec standards. For supplies, Normandin is 50 km out. Then Saint-Félicien, 57 km, and Albanel, 58 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Douley the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -18°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Lac Douley the season follows that pattern closely.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Lac Biscornet, 1.2 km out. For Lac Douley, the notice at the access point is the final word.
