A grey, even sky over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Cary along the weed line and any gaps in it. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Quebec, Lac Cary falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The bank gives way to boreal forest. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Normandin is the closest town at 47 km. After that come Saint-Félicien at 53 km and Albanel at 54 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The shape of Lac Cary rewards a slow walk along one bank.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -18°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Cary.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Salice, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat access at Lac Cary as something to verify.
