Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with the glass holding level. The productive water at Lac Dorval will be around structure within a cast of the bank. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Quebec holds Lac Dorval, in Mauricie. It stands 420 metres above sea level. A pocket of water where every cast reaches cover. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. The nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 39 km away. La Tuque lies 64 km off, Manawan another 71 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The near bank of Lac Dorval is often the one people ignore.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 17°C in July. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Time your trip to Lac Dorval by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Grasshopper, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lac Dorval locally before you travel.
