Rain colouring the margins today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Heart are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Lac Heart is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. The setting is taiga. Surface area runs to about 10 hectares — small enough to read in one session. The full circuit measures close to 2.5 km on foot. Some 39 km away sits Weymontachie, the nearest settlement. After that come La Tuque at 61 km and Manawan at 74 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Work Lac Heart in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Heart.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lac Case is 1.1 km distant. Rules at Lac Heart are worth checking on the day.
