Dull, settled light over the water, with a decent SSW wind working the banks with a settled glass. Fish at Lac de l'Etang should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Lac de l'Etang in Mauricie, Quebec. Elevation runs to 431 metres. Around 29 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 3.7 km on foot. Start from Leblanc, 86 km down the road. Then Chapais, 90 km, and Chibougamau, 97 km. Also worth knowing: 1.9 km away is Lac Karl, Lac Ventadour out at 3.3 km, 4 km away is Lac Leo, Lac Sauve out at 4.1 km and 4.2 km away is Lac Gadou. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lac de l'Etang for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Lac de l'Etang the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. For a change of water, Lac Karl is 1.9 km distant. Signs at Lac de l'Etang carry more weight than any list.
